This section shares promotional attachments designed to promote tourism and special events by making the license plate a mobile billboard. The earliest toppers we’ve found are from the 1930s. After Mexico, along with the USA and Canada adopted the 6″ x 12″ standard in 1956, plate toppers eventually gave way to license plate frames.

Since 1998, Mexico has issued license plates with slogans (political, state branding, special events, and tourism). In fact, Mexico City and all states but one have issued 108 slogan license plates, some with two slogans on the same plate. The only state that has not used a slogan on its plates is Baja California Sur.
